A safe, simple and successful way to a brighter smile

Your teeth can discolour for a number of different reasons, but you don’t have to leave them like that. We can help your smile dazzle again with teeth whitening treatment, a process where the tooth discolouration is brightened to a lighter shade and the staining agent removed. It is an entirely safe procedure when carried out under professional supervision, and can achieve incredible results. At Lewes Dental, we use Opalescence whitening gels.

What does teeth whitening treatment involve?

If you are interested in teeth whitening, we begin by discussing the process with you, and take a look at your teeth and gums to ensure you are suitable for treatment. Opalescence whitening is mainly carried out at home.

We take impressions of your teeth so that your accurate and comfortable whitening trays can be made. We ask you about your ideal results and advise how white you can expect your teeth to become. We also take photos of your teeth so we can compare to your results at the end of treatment.

When your whitening trays have been made, we show you how to apply the specially formulated gel and fit the tray into your mouth. The amount of time you need to wear your trays will depend on your individual case, and we will advise you of this. Your whitening treatment is carried out in the comfort of your own home over 2-3 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is teeth whitening painful?

Teeth whitening is not painful. It is non-invasive, doesn’t affect your tooth structure and your custom made trays allow for comfortable treatment. You may experience some sensitivity in your teeth as they are being whitened, but this is temporary and will go away once your treatment is complete.

Can my crowns/veneers/bridge be whitened?

Teeth whitening treatment is not effective on dental restorations, and cannot be used to change the colour of crowns, veneers or bridges. These can be replaced to match the new shade of your teeth at an additional cost, if required. Teeth that have undergone root canal treatment can be whitened effectively, however.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth whitening is a very safe treatment when carried out by a trained dental professional. We use regulated products and ensure your teeth will not be damaged or compromised during treatment. Teeth whitening kits that can be bought online or in beauty salons are unregulated and should be avoided to protect your teeth and gums from unnecessary damage.

How long will my teeth whitening results last?

The longevity of your results depends on your individual case, the starting shade of your teeth and the diet choices you make. On average, your teeth whitening results can last anywhere from a few months to a few years, and can be easily topped up using your original whitening trays and new gel.

Do my teeth need to be healthy before I can have whitening treatment?

Teeth whitening treatment is most effective when carried out on healthy teeth, with plaque build ups removed. We may suggest you visit the hygienist for a professional deep clean before beginning treatment to whiten your teeth, as this will ensure an even finish. Your dentist will discuss this with you during your appointment.
