With Christmas just around the corner, here at Lewes High Street Dental Practice, we wanted to get in touch with a few important reminders.
If you have a severe dental emergency over the Christmas period that cannot wait until our next opening please contact:
247 Dentist 0330 175 9995
If you are a denplan patient, tell them clearly at initial contact that you are a denplan patient with Lewes High Street Dental Practice and they will provide you with a form to claim back their fees.
Or
NHS Emergency Dental Service
Sussex: 0300 1231 663
Kent: 0300 1234 412
They have limited appointments and are open Monday to Friday from 5:30pm in the evening and bank holidays from 8:30am.
If you are able to complete the forms that we send out prior to your appointment this is really helpful. Medical histories can play a vital part in dentistry so if there are any changes to yours please let us know, even if it’s something you might not feel is important
If you develop a cold sore prior to your dental appointment we kindly ask that you contact us to reschedule.
An active cold sore can be highly contagious and can be spread to others or to other parts of your face, like your eyes. It can also make the procedure and delay healing. Contact us as soon as you notice a cold sore developing.
If you need to cancel your dental appointment we ask for 24 hours notice. This allows us to allocate valuable appointment time to another patient. In cases where 24 hours notice is not possible short notice cancellation fees will apply.
We like to include a dental tip in our newsletters, so with all the tempting Christmas treats around we thought it would be good to give some advice on toothpaste.
A range of toothpastes are available containing different levels of fluoride. The amount of fluoride in the toothpaste can be found on the side of the tube and is measured in parts per million (ppm).
For most people the ppm stated below would be recommended, however if you/your child has a higher risk of decay then the dentist may recommend a higher level.
Children under 3 years old should brush twice daily, with a smear of toothpaste containing at least 1000ppm fluoride.
Children between 3 and 6 years old should brush twice daily with a pea-sized amount of toothpaste containing more than 1000ppm fluoride.
Adults should brush twice daily with a toothpaste containing 1350-1500ppm fluoride. All ages should be encouraged to spit out the toothpaste but not to rinse as this removes and dilutes the fluoride in the mouth.
We hope this advice will keep your smile shining brightly, particularly over the festive period.
Why did the snowman go to the dentist?
To fix his Frost -bite!
