If one or more of your teeth have become chipped, damaged or unsightly, we can use composite bonding for a quick and easy restoration. The composite material is carefully colour matched to your natural teeth to blend beautifully into your smile, and can even be used in a whiter shade to provide a total transformation.
Composite bonding is a very popular restorative treatment, chosen by patients for the incredible results that can be achieved in just a single appointment. It is highly aesthetic, non invasive and completely pain free, as the composite material is built directly onto your tooth and requires none of your natural tooth structure to be removed. We can alter the shape, size and colour of a single tooth or use composite bonding to change the overall appearance of your whole smile.
Our dentists Steven and Fay have completed the award-winning Dr Monik Vasant Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry course, which recognises the importance of having a beautiful smile whilst also preserving the health of the teeth.
After a quick discussion about your ideal results, including the desired shape and colour of the composite material, we begin your treatment by preparing your teeth. We clean and dry the tooth or teeth we will be treating and use a gel to create a rough surface for the composite to effectively bond to.
We use perfectly colour matched composite material, or a new shade chosen by you, to build up the tooth shape. We apply the composite in layers, allowing for excellent precision and accuracy. Once we are happy with the shape and size achieved, the composite is hardened with a UV light.
The composite sets immediately, giving full function to your tooth. We give it a professional polish to complete your treatment and leave your smile looking and feeling smooth and sparkling.
Most patients are suitable for composite bonding treatment, as long as their teeth are healthy and problem free. Please talk to your dentist if you would like to find out more about composite bonding. They will be able to tell you if you are a good candidate for treatment and discuss all your options with you.
The length of time that the composite bonding material will last on your teeth depends on a number of factors, including your general dental health, where in your mouth the bonding is placed and your individual case. You can expect the composite bonding to last around 5-10 years on average. We can easily repair small areas of damage or general wear and tear in a single appointment at the practice.
If you change your mind about having the composite bonding on your teeth, we can simply remove it. Composite bonding is a reversible process, so if you decide you no longer want it, we can safely remove it and return your teeth to the way they were before treatment.
Composite bonding treatment is completely pain free, making it a very effective restorative and cosmetic solution for many patients. None of your natural tooth enamel needs to be removed to make way for the composite material and as it is applied directly onto the tooth you will feel no pain.
Yes, it is important that you still keep up with a good brushing routine at home in order to keep your teeth and gums healthy and free from bacteria. Your dentist will keep an eye on your composite bonding at your regular check up appointments, as well as ensuring the rest of your mouth remains problem free.
